Brittany’s wedding, and now Rochelle’s hold special places in my heart as both these girls are family, and just as we were excited to welcome Jordan into the craziness, we now welcome Gab!

Their wedding is still a little time away, but in the mean time…we get to do some fun engagement shots all over Lonsdale Quay and Vancouver … not to0 shabby at all!

Loved this wedding from start to finish, from their vintage styled wedding to the people there, it was a wedding to be remembered!  Heather took care of every little detail and made this wedding theirs!

To top it all off, I got to not only take the pictures, BUT, be a guest as a friend, as Heather is the sister of my best buddy Kyle….and through the years I’ve gotten to know Heather’s family through him, and they made me feel like family!  What a blessing!

So I met Jon early afternoon to find a good location for me to be in sniper mode and him to be to be in proposal mode!

His plan?  Pop the question on top of  beautiful Grouse Mountain.  They had planned for a nice romantic dinner up there that night (yes she knew it was coming) … Jon splurged for her to get all pampered, hair, make up, day out with the girls, and so they’d have a nice little skate around the pond up on the hill.  Few problems … As many ladies seem to have the tendency, Alex was running late so I realized quickly the nice light we planned for wasn’t gonna happen, oh well you roll with it.  Second problem …. well she was in a skirt (skating and skirts don’t go well together) all dolled up and it was cold up there, and finally…………well Alex doesn’t skate very in the best of conditions.  Jon was going to take her around the pond a couple times, just chat, but they barely made it a 1/4 way around when I think Jon found his plan was unravelling fast……so out came the ring, down went Jon on one knee and the rest is history!

Love these two.  Spent a few more moments with them after snapping here and there, and then let them celebrate together afterwards alone with their nice dinner.

They asked me to do their “Bloodiest” cover yet for their topic of “Hockey Arena. Our Modern Day Colosseum?” With the help of the amazing Jayna Marie Makeup we were able to pull of what maybe on of my most favourite shoots to date!

For those wondering about lighting and post production.  This was lit by a Chinatown Special DIY Beauty Dish with a Canon Speedlight camera left and then two Ebay Special LED video lights left and right behind the subject.  Snow flakes, color grading and “look” all polished in post with Lightroom and Photoshop.

All the locations, models and the story we created worked out perfect for this shoot! We love taking an editorial and running with a story to make it all the more unique, and just a little different than the typical “Behind the Scenes” shoots you usually see.

It was an adventure for sure and we’re so excited for how everything came together. Thanks Jessica and Trousso Thé for the opportunity to make this happen and trusting my vision for this “Femme Fatale” editorial!

This was Cole and Therese (and Embla cause she’s the best of both of them together).

If you don’t know who Cole Roberts is, he’s one half of the amazing photography duo Nordica Photography (on my top 5 favourite wedding photographers list ps!).  Somehow, Cole as awesome as he is, managed to take the heart of the lovely Therese, a Sweedish gem!  Not only that, the two of them created one of the most beautiful babies I’ve ever seen in their daughter Embla!

This was their wedding….The three of them, Jakob (the other half or Nordica …. and family to them) and myself.  Talk about small and intimate!

Their focus…their family coming together!

We spent the morning doing life together, them getting ready as a family, putting on ties, hopping into dress, changing messy diapers, you know the usual wedding morning!  Then we popped into a limo (Thereses first time) and headed to a secluded North Vancouver beach to get married in a cave on what may have been the rainiest day of the year (waterfalls I tell you!).

The rain didn’t stop them, so it wasn’t going to stop us!  This was one of the most wonderful wedding days I’ve had the privilege of being a part of.  Thank you Cole and Therese for letting me share in your day with you (AND even sign as a witness to your union!! Say what!!)

SO, when I asked Michael Wachniak to photograph the birth of my 2nd child Amélie this past November, his only caveat was that I photograph the birth of his second son….DEAL!!! BUT, I knew that I would be an emotional wreck, and that wasn’t gonna be good for anyone.

So around the end of December I get a text from Mike saying things were happening, Grit (the beautiful mother to be x2) was already having labor pains, almost a month early!! So on call I went.  Fast forward almost a month later … to the middle-ish of January (the due date of #2) … Mike calls me and says it’s GO TIME! I grab my gear and go, however after a few hours, the midwife gave the NO GO!

Things were a little more tense after the false call, but everyday I was in communication with Mike and Grit, always seeing how things were going.  It went from maybe today, to “Who knows when, nothin happening!!”  To say Mike and Grit weren’t anxious was an understatement.

THEN … the call!  “Geoff, pretty sure this is it, if it happens it’s gonna happen fast!”  And Mike wasn’t lying!! I got to their house at 9:30pm … at 10:45 little Lucas Aidan Wachniak was born.

From almost being a month early to being over a week late … this was quite the event!

Believe it or not, I kept it all together that day, I was in the zone focused, capturing each moment as it came!  However the emotion finally came when I watched the final video I made for them… cue the waterworks!!! What an amazing life experience this was.  As I watched and re-watched the whole event, all the nights events came flooding back and I was overwhelmed at what is truly one of life’s greatest miracles! Grit and Mike I will never forget sharing in this day with you, thank you so much for inviting me to be apart of such an incredible night!  As well thank you so much for giving me permission to share the birth of #2 with everyone else.
